Caption: As Canada's sesquicentennial year draws to a close, it presents an opportunity to reflect on the many and varied celebrations. My choice, from a railfan perspective, is of course the CP Canada 150 Train lead by those pristine, iconic F units. Incorporated in 1861, Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) was an integral part of confederation. As a physical link between east and west, the building of the CPR is one of the country's greatest feats of engineering. My choice of picture and the Smiths Falls location will remain entrenched in my memory bank for ever. I had the good fortune, along with 4 or 5 others, to be trackside at Lorne Street as the CP 150 train slowly reversed out of Matheson Yard down the side track a goodly distance before finding the cross-overs to gain access to the main and then throttle up to ease by us on the near track on its way to our nation's capital! Sunday in Ottawa was a proud and enjoyable day with many photo opportunities but none to compare with the sounds and sights earlier in the morning at Smiths Falls.
