Caption: As a contrast to Bill Thomson's excellent photo of VIA 83 at Brampton diamond *here*, here's a more modern view of the same spot: CN freight #385 heads westbound through town, with GE C44-9W's IC 2726 and CN 2690 about to start hammering the diamond on the north track of the Halton Sub. The former CP line in the foreground now belongs to the Orangeville Brampton Railway (as the OBRY Owen Sound Spur) and sees use only twice a week. At the time, CP was still sending maintenance crews to regrind the diamonds from wear every so often, and CP trucks parked around the diamond area was a common occurrence.

Excellent work MrDan.
Nice shot. This diamond has been upgraded to 50MPH in the last couple years. It used to be 30MPH until they upgraded it.
That’s right Phil, they replaced the conventional diamonds with a new style of diamond where CN’s line is seamless rail permitting a higher speed, while the OBRY (ex-CP) line would be lifted up over the CN’s rails by the flanges. Unfortunately, no more clickity-clack!
I know it all to well and actually went over the diamond twice yesterday! Once on 384 in the afternoon and then again at about 2300 on 397. I honestly don’t miss the clickity clack I can run across at 50 and love it. The only one better is the diamond at Cerew on the Dundas Sub and thats good for 60MPH!!
