Approach to Hamilton West on the wye connecting track ( aka 'cow path' )

   Extra 4585 West  -   GeeP  9   quartette   -   4585 / 4563 / 4577 / 4561

  March 19, 1978 Kodak Tri X negative by S.Danko

   Notable: the location, the wye, from mile 37.3 Oakville Sub to mile 0.4 Dundas Sub ( let me know if I got this):

   to my left (out of view ) is the searchlight absolute signal governing westbound access to mile 0.4 Dundas Sub

   over my left shoulder ( out of view) about 150 feet is the Hamilton West Junction wye switch to the south track Dundas Sub ( and beyond that the crossover to the north track);

   to the left the Dundas Sub continues under the road bridge and beyond to Bayview Junction;

   extra 4585 West train occupies the wye connecting track, and to the right, beyond the road bridge is Hamilton Junction;

   to the extreme right and behind me is the CP Rail Goderich Subdivision ( approximately mile one), circa 1978, and beyond the road bridge interchanges with CN at Hamilton Junction

  the beauty of a 'true' 28mm lens !

  1. Beauty, yes. Is that your car? You drove in there??

  2. Arnold: my Chev Impala parked on the hill just beyond the trees, off Plains Rd a large semi graveled triangular area……access road to Ham West from Ham Jct, see Ham Jct shot ( bottom right: my 65 Ford LTD ( 352 cu.in. V-8 ‘the beast’):

    TH&B 71

    who the Ford Maverick guy is – no idea, same vehicle and person in the prior 28mm shot:

    CN 4100

  3. And thank you to the moderators: you guys doing a great job ! and for the added security
    ” 02/20/2021: I added SSL to the login page ”
    Merci!

  4. The old links no longer work. You must been posting back 2011 or so. :o )
    I wondered about the car down below as some guys had the nerve to drive in there. Its a long way around considering the old gravel “bus parking” area up top at the lookout was an easy spot…….but then once upon a time it got roped off at the entrance. A few of us knew the security guy so were able to park by going around the gate. Those days long gone, just like the GPs. :o (

  5. interesting viz the links,
    have a look a images # 12998 Ham Jct;
    # 44475 the 28mm shot.

  6. I cannot recall the Maverick. It must have showed up in some of my photos as well……..
    I’ll have to do some digging.

  7. I wanted a ’65 LTD, same motor, really badly.
    But did not quite have the dollars. (McAllister Motors in Burlington had one, used, at $2650. Ended up with a Fairlane; after that, Cougars, 71 and 76. Then a slew of Crown Vics until now have the second of the Flex; which is great for distance traveling.

  8. the maverick was Jan Hart

  9. …Arnold, all those St.Thomas built Crown Vic’s ! And shipped via CN / Wabash ( N&W ) ! Love those discontinued vehicles ! The Flex, discontinued. That ’65 LTD (discontinued) acquired ’73 for $500 lasted into ’77, changed a tire and the frame broke….replaced by Oshawa B body builds: re-designed new ’77 Impala ( remember the ‘that’s more like it’ marketing campaign)…then five used B body GM wagons: two Parisienne 79 & 85, 92 Caprice, and after GM discontinued RWD in 96: Texas builds: 96 Road Master (Corvette LT1 motor), 95 Caprice (LT1); and after 28 years the second new vehicle: NJ built 05 Jimmy, discontinued in 05. Now on my second Ford, a (turbo) F150, not yet discontinued !

  10. This train was an extra 4584 west would it have had a train symbol otherwise ?
