Numerous O&W and KCC units as per time table motive power guide “cabs are not equipped to lead freight standards”
Thanks for the info Doug! I have one other picture of a KCC unit that I took at the BCR shops in North Vancouver. As for the O&W units I managed to photograph a few of them at Fraser Mills in Coquitlam BC prior to there being delivered to the BCR.
Does that have dual clasp brakes?
Yes, they had double clasp brake shoes. BC Rail removed them when rebuilt. Years ago, working a yard job at Williams Lake, we ran one of the KCC units, lite engine, from the south end of the yard to the shop track. I jammed on the engine brakes and darn near went through the cab window. I was not expecting double clasp iron shoes, used to cobra shoes. Also note “RCL” above the unit number 738 on the cab. RCL denotes that it was radio equipped for locotrol operation as a slave unit. BC Rail quickly installed the radio / air brake equipment and used them as mid-train remote units.
Thanks for that explanation, and your experience with them. I’m sure you muttered language that’s not fir for a PG rated forum. Lol.
