Amtrak 285 leads "The Rainbow" toward the steel arch bridge and the USA in this view from January 28, 1979. The train is seen crossing Queen St. in Niagara Falls. Background building is the King Edward Hotel, also now a part of history. On the right in the far background one can see a revolving tower down in the tourist district.

  1. Mr Mooney..where did the Conrail line go? I’m unfamiliar with it.

  2. This is the old line that in later years was referred to as the “CP line thru Clifton Hill”.In the 1970s it consisted of what is now the Montrose Sub., Brookfield to Chippewa. It then continued up thru Niagara Falls past the towers and thru Clifton Hill (I have posted shots from this area) and along Palmer Av to the currently abandoned steel arch bridge over the river. Line torn up in late 1999/early 2000 to accommodate the Casino(s). You might have this confused as in earlier photos it was the Conrail Mainline but later became known as part of the CP Hamilton sub. Same track.

  3. Doc: After seeing a couple of images I posted taken 8/2000 I must be off by a year referring to the Clifton track removal. Make it early 2001 it was lifted. :o )

  4. Ahh alright…I thought they were 2 different lines…thanks for clarification.
