American Iron & Metal has upgraded from their Shuttlewagon to this, a TP90 built by Tractive Power Corporation. The upgrade in horsepower has been necessitated to accommodate more loaded cars for AIM’s recently completed shredder. The number, 1936, is the year that AIM entered business. Its founder’s name, Peter Black, is inscribed on the side of the unit as well. In fact, the business is still in the Black family some 84 years later. On the note of the new shredder, the uptick of traffic at AIM is quite noticeable, with a considerable amount of cars moving in and out on both CN and CP. NSC has also built a large number of new cars for AIM, as seen in this shot. Things are pretty busy up there – this shot took me about all of 1 minute of waiting to get after I showed up there after work on Tuesday.

  1. Wierd looking thing. Beats a trackmobile tho

  2. Interesting. Most TP90’s I’ve seen with a single 3 axle truck. Neat to see with a pair of flexicoils.

  3. Nice catch. I agree with Steve. Still worth a shot. Now if only Ingenia in Brantford would get a trackmobile-upgrade…

  4. Thanks for the comments, guys. I am with you re the aesthetics, I wasn’t very enthused when I saw the shots of it a couple of months back on whatever eastbound it came out of Sarnia on. That said, seeing it shoving a string of AIM gons yesterday kind of changed my tune a bit.

  5. Great catch James—always interesting to see your photos taken at uncommon locations around Hamilton—I’m trying to figure where you took this shot ?

  6. Thank you. This would be shot from Parkdale Ave

  7. Frame/trucks from an ex CN/CP SW1200RS? Fascinating Canadian enterprise; http://www.tractivepowercorp.com

  8. I agree @rsmith about Ingenia!

  9. Seen these cars in Montreal quite a bit recently.
