Hi Liam, very interesting and very nice picture. Have never seen the CN Mac Yard – CP’s Lambton Yard transfer ever since CN ended its interchange freight from Oriole-Leaside CP Yard to this location. I believe there is a small correction, I think it’s the ex-CN Weston Sub (ex-ex Guelph Sub) rather than the CN Newmarket Sub which is about a mile to the east. Thank you for sharing.John

@railwayguy – Thank You! And by Newmarket Sub I do mean the line just east of here, as the CN units had to pull past the Davenport Diamond where the CP crosses the ex-CN Newmarket Sub, obviously I didn’t get a picture of it crossing there but it was quite interesting to think about. Also, I did not know the Weston was once part of the Guelph Sub! It must have been re-named when they built the Halton Sub?
Hey Liam, I didn’t recognize that CN 549 was taking the curve from CP MacTier Sub east onto the North Toronto Sub., and then backing west into Lambton yard. Also, had no idea that the CN to CP transfer would be so long that it stretched all the way to the Northern Diamond with the CN Newmarket Sub ! Your caption is correct. I assumed the transfer was taking the newer lead (curve) from MacTier Sub west into Lambton Yard and was thinking of a number of years ago when the CN Weston Sub crossed the CP North Toronto Sub on the level. Yes, the CN sub name change took place when CN built the Halton Sub. Today, as you probably know , the Guelph Sub starts at Silver (west of Georgetown Station). Construction of the grade separation at Northern Diamond has begun, so now is the time to try and photograph a long CN 549 crossing CN Newmarket Sub. before the grade separation is completed. John
Oh so that’s why Silver is approx Mile 25 of the Guelph sub. That makes a ton of sense. Thanks for the insight @railwayguy
Recenetly in Railfanning at Osler, a couple of new friends stated that CN 549 would prefer to take the Weston lead into Lambton then ultimately runaround. But in requesting with CP Dispatcher he was adamant that they take the Mactier/North Toronto lead, yes, all the way to the Diamond with the Newmarket Sub. I’ve wanted to catch this job, but one problem, i’m sleeping. Maybe back in the day coming back from a club! Glad you caught it!
