Caption: After meeting CP 550 at Baxter, 119 chugs uphill through Utopia with double stacks in tow. Like usual, there is no DPU for this Edmonton bound stacker. Here, it crosses the now abandoned section of the BCRY Meaford Spur. Shortly before abandonment in 2011, a One Way Low Speed (OWLS) diamond was installed to reduce maintenance. However, only a few months later, the line was abandoned, and the diamond has since been mostly dismantled. The signals, however remain turned on, and I guess they will display solid red until the bulbs fade out. The Meaford, built in 1855, is one of the oldest rail lines in Canada, and is a half a century older than the MacTier. Evidently though, the MacTier has had much greater success, being a transcon route. It would be a pity to see the Utopia-Collingwood section of the Meaford torn up, however rail trails seem to be the way of the future. Personally, I'd love to see the BCRY operate a Barrie-Collingwood heritage train, much like sister railroad OBRY does. Only time will tell though.
