Caption: Acadia Coal Company 2-6-0 42 handles a steam crane at their colliery (mine) in Stellarton, Nova Scotia in August 1961. The crane was working on some trackage in the yard, and 42 is shown here taking her back to the shop in the late afternoon.

Build by Alco (Schenectady NY) as Dominion Coal 2-6-4T 16 in 1899, the unit became Sydney & Louisburg 42 not long after in 1901 (who eventually converted it into a 2-6-0). 42 was sold to the Acadia Coal Company in 1955, used to switch and handle coal hoppers at their mine operations. After acquisition by a private owner in 1963, and operation on tourist railroads Cape Breton Steam Railway, and the Salem & Hillsboro, 42 was donated to (and currently resides at) the Nova Scotia Museum in Stellarton, NS in 1983.
