Caption: Abandoned. It's a word that no one in this community enjoys. Unfortunately, we hear this word all too often in Southwest Ontario. Stayner is just another example.
Pictured is some of the last remnants of the CN Meaford sub in the small town of Stayner Ontario. Operated by the BCRY until 2011, this line sat untouched for years until local residents decided to clean up the area a bit. Now, the county has plans to remove the tracks and replace them with a rail trail. You can see this has already been done north of the highway 26 crossing, as well as the removal of the signal NW of the crossing.
Sadly, I don't see the remaining track and signal lasting much longer as this section of rail is "desperately needed" to connect the trail through town.
Sometimes I can still imagine myself as a young child, watching the BCRY crawl through Stayner, usually with 1 single tanker. Soon, the memories will be all that's left.
