A typical shot at Hamilton West with an a-typical train. Turns out this was the CN 100 train en-route to Montreal and Quebec along with the usual intermodal cars found on 148. At least the weather turned out nice, but I have mixed feelings about this 'celebration' - certainly feels like it's done on a shoestring budget.

  1. Pity they don’t match the trailing wagons!!

  2. I totally agree with you Stephen. CN’s effort to celebrate its 100th year is totally lame and absolutely pitiful when compared with their US counterparts. This celebrations should be huge and inspirational especially considering how far CN has become since it was formed in 1929! I have the information to the cities and dates if anyone is interested? The celebration of container cars that CN is calling a celebration will not be hitting Toronto until Aug 2020! CN you almost make me ashamed to be an employee for over 36 years :-(

  3. Great picture Steve! In light of the 100th, wouldn’t it wonderful to have a modern diesel painted in a ‘Green & Gold Heritage Scheme’!

  4. One can wish for a lot of things, but it’s all just wishful thinking unless you have a line on the person who can make the call. That’s not me :)

  5. I have contacted CN about that Steve and made that very suggestion! I am waiting for a response. One never knows!

  6. Don’t hold your breath harricottbay.
They already have everthing planned out and ready to go. It would be wonderful if CN did what NS and UP did to honour their past.

  7. Even that crest on the side of the cab bigger replacing what looks like a patch out job would be better! I know Model Railroader did a better job with their MR&T layout celebrating their history with a fleet of Heritage locomotives! ;)

  8. Well well… i’m sure you guys heard the news?

    Real heritage units incoming.

  9. Fingers crossed that there will be more than just the GT unit on 422 tomorrow. I saw a couple pics today ( not sure if they are real) of two GE units. One in IC “Deathstar” livery and the other in BC Rail red , white and blue.

  10. Indeeed, now a photo of one is on our site. I wonder if anyone here had something to do with egging CN on to this!

Going to make things very interesting for photography over the next few years.
