A pair of refurbished VIA Rail coaches (VIA 8109 & VIA 8100) is coupled to CAD 1825 (an ex-CP RS-18), I believe a VIA Rail engine was about to pick them up to bring them to the Montreal Maintenance Centre.

  1. Really, they are giving the 8100s this scheme too? I wonder if they are planning on permanently leaving some HEP1 cars in corridor service, or if they just want to make sure the Canadian is as ugly as possible when it resumes service.

Also interesting is how they’ve sliced the marker light housings off from where they were grafted on around 30 years ago.

  2. I personally think these look good, fresh. Nice catch, Berry.

  3. Thanks Joe, I like them as well.

  4. Very interesting Michael, like the paint scheme and fresh appearance. How many more refurbished cars are to come out of CAD ? Thanks for posting.

  5. I actually do like this paint – a solid corridor train like this will look good. It’s too bad in a sense that the blue isn’t the original VIA blue, because then it would really look like a D&H revival.

I was only noting that since these are 8100s, it means the Canadian could soon have thess yellow/teal coaches, then blue-striped cars, then the black-striped Prestige cars. Perhaps it’s a new voluntary rainbow era of sorts.

  6. A great capture of the ‘new’ look of VIA. Will match the diesels perfectly. It will be interesting to see a full Canadian in this scheme. I wonder will this also be the new Siemens colors?
