  1. I don’t believe i’ve seen a GP9m with a Noodle in the 4000 series, usually stripes. I could be wrong though (it’s early).

  2. Winner Winner chicken dinner… I was wondering who was going to notice….

    this is new: Winnipeg put a new hood on 4136, earlier this year it still had zebra stripes.

  4. Happens now and then. The hood on 4136 recently came off the retired 7228, at Winnipeg.

  5. How long, do you think, the GP9m’s will last? If scrapped or whatever, it would leave a big void in CN’s roster. ie more leased and bought 38-2′s.

  6. Bruce thank you for noting that. I was wondering how long it would be until someone figured it out…. didn’t think it would be that quick!!

    Honestly Brad other than CN getting rid of any units that have major issues, I don’t see any movements happening anytime soon – not en-masse like the GMD-1′s as they would need about 50 units to replace the 80 or so GP9′s they have now (50 38-2′s for example)

    If CN suddenly orders 50 replacement/lease 4 axle units… start crying… once CN gave back most of the GMTX the GP9′s were safe, for the time being.

    I wonder why they don’t just go after CSX/NS for units, but you have no idea what you’re getting and there may be major rebuild required which seems they aren’t interested in..

    at least with the recent GMTX lease fleet they had time to sort out the good ones…. 3 years.. which made some sense to me.. but they pushed the 7500′s from yard service (replaced with SD’s), sent as many GMTX back from that move, and kept what they needed, the cream of the crop I would suspect.

    Does anyone have ‘decent’ 4 axle units that would even fit the bill or will CN have to bite the bullet and do some kind of rebuild program? There hasn’t been a good GP9 rebuild program in a while and CN would be the only railroad even in the market for it….. and would it be even worth it…

    80 units is a lot of units though…
