Caption: A few months ago, CIBC opened up a unique public park on top of Union Station in downtown Toronto. After some minor controversy, it was decided to allow photography in the park. The park opens up a new angle for eastward shots from downtown Toronto and a unique above view from Union.
Here is VIA 2, The Canadian rolling into Union Station afyer completing the cross country voyage. Arriving around 12h45, they are few hours ahead of schedule (the schedule allows 4 hours from Washago to Toronto, the Canadian usually takes about 2). Gone are the days where VIA 2 is 10+ hours late into Union, those have become extremely rare due to heavy schedule padding in 2019. VIA 6455, 6433 powered the Canadian that day

It took me a while to recognize this area. So much has changed.
Yeah this area has seen some very rapid changes and even more are coming.

What i didn’t realize is the entire west end of the trainshed is now covered by the monstrosity known as cibc park

Btw photography is totally ok but you as did I likely stood on the one bench to get around the tall glass wall but… security still talked to me. They watch everyone like a hawk
You might (not) be suprised to learn that I was actually able to reach up over the glass without using a bench. I used a low spot in the glass
I can see that. If you have a screen to use… its much harder though:)
Either way watch for security if you do stand on anything. What was the photography controversy?
When the park first opened, no camera photography was allowed. Cell phone pictures only. CIBC recieved so much backlash for that rule that they pretty quickly changed their policies to allow camera photography.
Thanks for blazing a path for me. I experienced zero resistance about it – openly carried a camera around my neck the entire time walking over and back to FanExpo.
Toronto sure is changing… and the freaks at fanexpo (I was there remember) are too! LOL

Most interesting view point, and lot more changes coming to this view with construction by Metrolinx of additional 2 new south GO train platforms, construction of new trackage and switches, and eventually overhead catenary poles and structures which will clutter the scene. Looks like a very long Canadian, was it the usual 22 car consist ? Noticed when leaving for Montreal on Aug 15th that the east end of the old Bush train sheds are unfortunately completely covered over by this new park deck and they can no longer be seen – perhaps a taste of the future if the park/rail deck is ever built between Spadina Ave & Bathurst St. Thanks for posting, John
