A busy morning at Swan Landing. While the angle of the sunlight could have been better, I felt it would be rude not to shoot this scene. Last year, CN extended track YB08 at Swan Landing to around 14000 feet essentially bringing the 14000 foot siding back to a true passing siding. Swan Landing tends to be a disaster most days as the junction with the Grande Cache Sub leads to a lot of switching moves with various trains swapping traffic. Before YB08 was extended, the siding was more times than not tied up with trains switching in the yard meaning there was a standoff between Hinton and Park Gate for the rest of the trains to meet. While YB08 was meant for switching purposes, it has also become an extra siding to meet trains. Case in point, Q10251 25 - CN 5760E sits in YB08, Q19251 25 - CN 8899E sits in the siding both who have been waiting in excess of an hour for the mighty Q11131 24, who's DPU CN 3041 brings up the rear.

  1. The “genius” of CN and it’s oversiding policy on display for one and all. Nothing like parking 100 series trains for an hour plus for a meet. Maybe Hunter’s idea of ripping up all the double track wasn’t so well thought out??

  2. A three way is a three way.. nicely done.

  3. Nice Photo Tim!
