A bit of unexpected activity as the CP Canadian stopped at Ignace on its eastward journey. About 25 miles or so ahead along the Kami sub CP suffered a derailment. The passenger stopped at the station and lead unit CP 8517 with caboose in tow headed down to the site with railroad personnel on board. The other unit on the Canadian, CP 1408, was a rare catch for me as well, for this unit was not around long enough to be part of the new VIA since it was retired in early 1978.
I was heading west, and moved on, not learning any particulars of the derailment or how long the train was held up at the station.

  1. Interesting story, especially the removal of the lead unit to transport a caboose with personnel to the incident.
