584 is coming up the hill to the junction switch at Kerensky with an unbelievable train of boxcars. The units and cars create an impression of a time period much earlier than 1987. This train typically goes through town in the morning, how fortunate to have it come late at 18:30. Morning would have offered few spots for capturing a train this size.

  1. Fabulous image! Must have been a great time to be track side.

  2. Another spectacular photo from the Coronado Sub. That’s quite the string of grain cars! CN’s GMD1′s will never be gone as long as we have your great pics to view!

  3. So uniform and seemingly endless…graffiti free…another great Coronado Capture

  4. This has me curious: did any CN logo scheme gmd-1′s get a noodle on the nose and when?

  5. Thank you for the comments everyone. :-)
It was kind of a bonus day track side. All the noise of those boxes going by, plus, the units are purring to get that big string of empties up the hill. That is a good point about the graffiti, there was spray bombs way before 1987, why, in what seems a short time, did rail cars become the preferred canvas?
