  1. Very cool shot – curious what train this might have been? Did it have a name?

  2. An E-7.

  3. Steve, not sure of the train number or name. Maybe someone else can comment.

  4. Short Answer: Judging by the time of day, this appears to be Penn Central train 351 (Buffalo-Chicago).

    Long Answer:
Penn Central Empire Service Train 71 operated from New York Grand Central to Buffalo. For those continuing west, Train 51 was basically the section that operated Buffalo to Chicago through the U.S via Cleveland, and train 351 operated Buffalo to Chicago via the CASO. Timetable provided below for reference:

  5. Train 354, Chicago to Buffalo per this Timetable

  6. Amazing there were 8 passenger trains (4 each way per day) Plus the TH&B Budds in 1968. Very cool.

  7. I agree with Pete, this would be a PC train if the merger date of February 1 1968 to be true. A fascinating period in railroad history.

  8. This has to be a EB as the CN/WABASH track was to the south

  9. Definitely eastbound. Sun setting in the west is to the rear of the train also.

  10. Didn’t notice the CN track. If EB then it would seem to be, as Stephen asserted, train 354.

  11. Absolutely fantastic!
