About on the hi-rail

I've been photographing trains since Jan. 3rd 1980 where I grew up in Montreal QC. Moved to New Westminster BC in 1982 and haven't looked back, now I'm living in Cranbrook BC. Went digital just 2 years ago with a Nikon D90 and have recently moved up to the D800e. Best thing around here are the Rockies under winter conditions with trains of course!

In the glow of afternoon sunlight, CP potash 673 pulled by UP 5521-5514 with mid-train DPU UP5539 and rear DPU CEFX1044 glide past the 65 mile board on CP's Cranbrook Sub under the watchful gaze of the Canadian Rockies.

With Fisher Peak rising above the heat, UP5506 and 5501 with rear DPU CP 9606 are about to crest the Fassiferne Hill on the Moyie Sub with loaded grain bound for U.S ports.

Train CP 505 is seen busting loose with 3 big M-Liners CP 4702-4558-4568 as it crosses the bridge westbound at Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue, Quebec.

CP 566, the 'South Wayfreight' from Golden BC, with CP5866 and 5736 are about to finish their day as 566 is just a few miles from Ft Steele where the crew will terminate. A yard crew from Cranbrook will then haul the train up to Cranbrook for switching in preparation for the train to Trail or pick up by east or west bound through freights.

Under a very hazy sky, CP8818 accompanied by mid-train DPU 9373 and rear DPU 8708 are seen having just left Ft Steele on the Windermere Sub with loaded coal heading north along Bummers Flats bound for Roberts Bank on the coast.

With glorious skies above and the Canadian Rockies as a backdrop, CP's Royal Canadian Pacific with F units 4107-1900-4106 are about to pass the MP 65 marker on CP's Cranbrook Subdivision as they make their way to Cranbrook BC for their overnight stay before continuing on to Golden the following day.

CP train 563 the McConnel Turn with CP6007-5952-5943, a trio of SD40-2's in varying CP paint schemes, are seen in glorious evening light along the banks of the Moyie Lake as they begin their journey to the Teck Trail Smelter. Usually an evening departure means that only summer light can get this operation in daylight...I think its worth the winter wait to witness this scene, I hope you agree.
