CP 235 rolls through the ancient searchlights at begin/end CTC Walkerville (Mile 104.5) on a crisp November afternoon. I'm thankful I shot these when I did as no less then a week later replacements showed up. They lasted for some time but as of mid March 2020 they have been cut over in favour of vaders.

A freshly painted CP 7018 leads 235 around the curve at Tilbury and through the points of East siding switch Tilbury on it's way West towards Oak in Detroit.

As of midnight on April 30th 2020 the CN Cayuga sub is now officially out of service between mile 114.55 (New Sarum) and mile 87.22 (Tillsonburg), with mile 87.22 to 80 (End of Steel in Delhi) seeing abandonment. Originally built by the Great Western Railway 147 years ago as a connection between Buffalo and the ferries in Windsor this line has seen many different owners over its existence to the likes of Wabash, N&W and CN. CN operated through trains up until roughly 1998 with NS through traffic (327, 328, 145 & 146) up until 1995. After 98 the future of the entire line was uncertain. From Delhi to Buffalo fell to the fate of abandonment and was torn up. In 2013 the St Thomas and Eastern (Trillium) ceased service over the still CN owned line to service the industries between St Thomas and Tillsonburg. After years of operation they did not find it profitable and OSR took over the business. Now after less then 4 years of running it, OSR too has found in not economically reasonable to continue service. With the few industries along the line, the fate of the Canada Air Line falls into the hands of CN.<br><br>Here we see OSR's pair of matching F units roll out of Tillsonburg past the manufacturing facility of Shaw's Ice Cream.

One of the last trains to traverse the Cayuga sub East of Tillsonburg. OSR 8235 and GP9 counterpart 1594 pull a cut of three 3 bay hopper cars past the old CN installed approach signal to the Port Burwell diamond with CP. Today marked likely the final time a revenue freight will traverse the Cayuga sub as OSR is pulling out which in turn will likely force CN to put it up for abandonment.

Ontario Northlands daily Englehart to North Bay road freight rolls through the heart of Temagami Ontario on their way South. GRS searchlights which used to guard the South end of the siding here sit dormant awaiting their eventual removal. To the right of the frame a mast still stands which used to hold a semaphore as well as the 1907 build station which no longer see's passenger service.

Ontario Southland's St. Thomas job rolls past one of the many farm yards which dot Southwestern Ontario with ex. SOO 383 in lead and 4101 in second.

After working the elevator in Courtland for more then likely the final time, OSR's weekly Cayuga job throttles up after flagging the previous crossing due to the age and reliability of the equipment on the line. I had originally intended to do a crossing shot looking down the road. With a very abrupt snow squall dropping gigantic snowflakes I quickly adjusted my position. With the snowflakes blowing in from the North and the sun scooting out from behind the clouds a few minutes before the train showed up, it provided this opportunity for a photo with snow and sun.

With the possible abandonment, CN's Cayuga sub has gotten a bunch of fame over the past 2 weeks. Operated by OSR once a week, railfans flocked from all over Southwestern Ontario this past thursday to capture what could very well be one of the last trains to traverse the line. With the St. Thomas job being combined with this job that day we were treated to a pair of higher horsepower units, instead of the nose to nose ex. CP pups. Here we see the train crossing Big Otter creek on one of the impressive trestles which are along this line.

Rolling down the jointed rail of CN's Pelton sub (formerly C&O Sub 1), CN's morning local run out of Van De Water is on the return trip winding it's way through the city. On the approach to where Pelton JCT. and Pelton tower once stood a C&O era call box has stood the test of time here. With Pelton Interlocking being controlled by C&O, NYC trains would then have to call the tower for permission through the junction. When a C&O train and a NYC train would show up at once, the NYC train would typically get precedence as C&O's traffic was mainly locals. Prior to roughly 1989, C&O crews did not have base radios. So the odd time they would roll up on a red signal without any CASO traffic in sight, they would us the callbox to call via codeline to Pelton's tower for permission to cross. Info provided by user: mercer<br><br>Since that time CN has taken out the diamond and tracks leading up to where the tower once stood. After purchasing the Sub 1 from CSX they went ahead and added a wide swooping connector onto the CASO which this train will traverse a few kilometers ahead.<br><br> Also a neat note is the Pere Marquette era cement whistle post.

With a quick heads up from a friend East of this location, I packed up my cameras and ladder and made my way out to Belle River. Due to the steep banks right off the sides of the track along the Windsor sub its quite difficult to get a shot where you're not looking up. Here we see a ridiculously early 147 rolling past the signals guarding the West switch of Belle River siding.

Over the past few days CP 235 has been good to us in Southern Ontario as well to the Detroit locals. Here we see 7018 wearing it's beautiful maroon and grey paint scheme, rolling past some of the many wind turbines that dot Essex county.

CN L509 rolls through the snow covered hills of Southern Ontario Eastbound for London. With the barn of a family farm alongside the tracks this spot has been a favorite among photographers along the Strathroy sub for over 50 years now.
