About Kevin Flood

I am from Kitchener, ON and have been photographing trains since 2000. I started with a Blacks point and shoot film camera then switched to digital in 2004/2005. I got my first DSLR in July 2007, and five years later, upgraded my camera to what I'm using currently - a Canon 60D.

BNSF 1066 leads two other BNSF locomotives on a westbound CN freight. For those of us who were foaming like crazy back in 2006, we recall that 2006 was a great year for CN (for the railfanner). Lots of trains and lots of FPON! You never know what would show up.

Going back in time over ten years ago, we see the "International," a VIA train with Amtrak equipment. I forgot the train symbol for this train but it used to run around the same time as VIA 85, which I believe replaced this train. Here we see it without double-deck Superliner cars, which appeared often in 2004, the year this train was abolished. Now, this is open to a discussion...

[Editors note: This is the first photo of the newly repainted 3394 on its second tour of duty] It is a muggy morning this 1st of September 2015 as GEXR 432 prepares to depart Kitchener for CN's MacMillan Yard in Vaughan. Today was the first time I saw the second of the two GATX blue and white SD40-2s to be repainted in the G&W yellow and orange paint that seems to be taking over. It looks nice!

GEXR train 518 heads west towards Stratford after working Kitchener. Today's power features a trio of G&W orange and yellow locomotives - GEXR 2303, GEXR 3030 and QGRY 2500. Time - 15:47.

CN X371 heads west towards London after completing its work at Beachville, just west of here. Numerous railfanners were out for this train as, all of us are aware of, this may be one of the last chances of getting this locomotive leading in this paint scheme, let alone in good light. Thanks for all the information and heads up everyone. Time - 19:08.

The CN Engineering Test Train (I'm not sure the train number) slowly makes its way west on the GEXR Guelph Sub through Kitchener. On Thursday, it was heading east through Kitchener around 14:30. It headed back west from Georgetown Thursday afternoon but ran out of time and got outlawed in Guelph. The following morning, it was on the move again. Here it is pictured over the Conestoga Parkway (the very south end of Highway 86) at 08:34. This was my first day late for work!

CN 7076 and 7068 are paired nose to nose with a cut of loaded steel cars as another CN geep rests in the background. This photo was taken seven years ago on the first day of the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics.

CN 435 rumbles into the slowly setting summer sun through Paris with four locomotives - CN 2281, IC 2711, CN 4761 and CN 4115; two big ones up front and two smaller ones trailing. Time - 18:51.

CN 331 struggles westward towards London after completing its work at Paris. As per other comments on here, CN 8014 was having trouble. The crew kept turning their headlights on and off.

This location is just minutes away from my work so it is a great spot to go to at lunch. VIA 85 is also just minutes from its approximately 12:30 station stop at Kitchener VIA Station. This photo was actually taken at 12:30; however, I'm not sure the exact time it's due in at Kitchener. It has its usually consist of two stainless steel coaches, here glistening from the sun. To the right is TubeFit, where I need to go on occasion for supplies for work. We see it crossing Highway 7, just on the city limits of Kitchener.

From my records on this photograph (which goes as far as the file name), this locomotive is from OSR. It may have been repainted into OSR paint, though I'm not sure. And I'm not sure how it ended up in Waterloo coupled to those ex-VIA blue coaches that the Waterloo Central acquired. This needs to be open for discussion...

GEXR 901 was sitting at Kitchener VIA station for a while back in 2003, coupled to GEXR 177. Five years later, it was resting in the Goderich yard looking worse for wear. I don't think she'll be running anymore! Behind it is 3834, a locomotive I never saw operational; however, other RP.ca contributors have. The 3834 was in even worse condition. Someone is welcome to comment on the fate of these two locomotives.

Back on July 4, 2007, I had to go to St. Catharines for traffic control training for my job at the time. So why not try and do a bit of foaming while in the area? On this particular day, an export unit train was out. Here we see train X436 going by the St. Catharines VIA station with WC 6940 and a string of export locomotives for Algeria. Note, these CN grey with orange stripe locomotives were kicking around back in 2006-2007; not sure what happened to them.

An eastbound ethanol train glides eastward on the Galt Sub with a nice power set, including UP 8972 leading CSXT 7830 and CEFX 1051.

As soon as I turned on my scanner after done work at a site in Galt, I heard SOO 6024 West getting a clearance to Puslinch. As the day was bright and sunny, and I was already in the area, this was a no-brainer. Not many of these bad boys left. SOO 6024 leads CP 9710 and solid autoracks comprising of CP train 255, departing Wolverton after completing their work at 18:44. Note, the guy in the cab holding a sub :)

CN 331, with IC 1031 on the point, charges into Woodstock just before 14:00 on a crystal clear day. The train is passing signal 480N at the east end of Woodstock at the level crossing of Beards Lane. Trailing locomotive is CN 5774.
