I had been in Carcross YT for about an hour when the WP&YR train arrived from Whitehorse. With a smile on my face, I spent about 20 minutes photographing the train. Carcross is a very interesting town with a lot of history. A few months after this picture was taken the WP&YR shut down.

One of two or three CN snow plow pushers that I managed to catch while visiting my mother in London Ont. As a child growing up in London I always visited the rail yards. Sad to see how the railways in London have changed. As an example: London had 4 roundhouses in the 1950,s and is now down to almost one. In this picture CN 4511 is sitting on the north edge of the CN turntable pit.

BCR 717 was just sitting there in the sun just south of BCR shops in North Vancouver, so I photographed it. The sad part is that CN has removed any trace of the shops.

Spotted the CP station while driving north on the Trans Canada Highway, so I dropped in to have a look. The station was of a newer design, so I took this photograph. Lots of action at the time. Now all buildings are gone. My only regret is that I never took the time to measure the outhouse! TO this day I have never seen a CP western lines standard plan for an outhouse.

Always found some CN or CP action in Lloydminster AB each time I took my family shopping there. This time I drove over to the CN yard office. CN 1615 was sitting there with the shady side exposed, so I drove around to the south side of the tracks in order to get near the sunny side of the locomotive. The locomotive was a little long in the tooth but she seemed to really jump when starting to pull a string of oil cars. Nothing like talking to the CN police while taking pictures!

Usually something at this location. So I drove down to the border, & sitting there were two of my favourite CP locomotives. Always liked the green & yellow colours. Photographed them often while they were working on Vancouver Island. This was the last time I would see them together.

After working at the Revelstoke BC post office site I walked over to edge of the CP yards in order to see what action was taking place. Spent quite a bit of time watching CP 1695 moving back & forth. I like this picture because its not often you can catch a locomotive clearing it's thought.

Long retired CN turntable at Hanna AB. Great spot to have a picnic under the tree & think back to the old days when the roundhouse was active.

All 3 brick buildings were constructed in 1913. The building closest to the camera is the “stores building”. It is the only one with a basement. The center building is the “car shop”. It’s last use was to store the VIA day liners. The last building is the 10 stall roundhouse & the two stall back shop. At the date of the photograph (late 1990’s) the E&N activities had been moved to Nanaimo BC.

CP Locomotive 3056 war sitting on the main line in Lloydminster AB about a block or so away from the CP yard office in Lloydminster Sask. In this picture you can see the CP Lloydminster Sask.yard office in the background. Great spot for taking photographs! Except in the winter months.

The photograph was taken after normal working hours. WP&Y 73 was under steam, & just sitting there unattended. It, & a flatcar were located just outside the two bay wood frame locomotive shed. Little did I realize that at the same date one year latter only weeds would be moving. Whitehorse was a great place to photograph trains not seen in lower BC.

On one of my first drives to the BCR yards I Caught these two sitting near the road. Photographed them immediately. To this day I have no idea of where they were used?

I grew up in the 1950's about one block south of the CN station on Horton St. I remember the L&PS cars & the CN steam locomotives in that area. Always something moving. This picture was taken while visiting London, & after signing a release from CN. Glad I had a nice day. The train was heading east towards Toronto.

The CN yards were just a short drive south of the CP yards. Usually the CN yards had one or two locomotives around. This was a nice summers day, so I left my wife's nurses reunion & slid up to the CN yards to see what was there. I discovered 5114 shut down & sitting there in a descent light so I was happy

In Revelstoke BC there was lots of action all year round. If I was going on the property I obtained permission. However picture taking was easy from the sidewalks,or the roads. Lots of parking across the street from the CP yards. The CP staff was friendly as long as you kept safety in mind!
