I’m a Railway Photographer born and raised in Brockville ON, I photograph the Canadian Class 1’s in Eastern Ontario and beyond. I currently photograph with the Canon 5D Mark IV, and the lenses I use are the 24-70 F2.8, 16-35 F2.8, 70-200 F2.8, and 100-400 F5.6.

ON 213 approaches a cut of deactivated searchlight signals, which are still standing on the Ramore Sub which kind of shows you what the ONR used to be like in the earlier days.

CP 41B crosses over the Trent River heading back out west, after spending a week and a half in Ottawa, for the CP Womens Golf League. Leading these beautiful Royal Cars are a pair of beautiful F units, and a B unit creating power for the F units to haul their train back west.

CN 327 with a pair of CSX’s finest GE’s crosses the Larocque Lift Bridge in Valleyfield PQ, hauling freight that’s destined for Syracuse’s Dewitt Yard. When the train gets to the crew change point at location point ‘Whites’, they get told a 326 is not coming due to no crew being available. So they’ll drop off all their freight at the Whites Siding, till the next day when new engines can take it state side, and these engines (as seen in the photo) will continue to Coteau and then head to Montreal’s Taschereau Yard as 326, after they uncouple their cars from the consist.

CN 123 passes under a set of searchlights by station name sign “Crysler” on the Kingston Sub. Leading is a rare IC SD70, along with a CN and BNSF Dash 9, which makes for a very colourful lashup.

CN L589 takes the long curve at mile 11 of the former CN (now VIA) Alexandria Subdivision as they pass through Ste Justine, on the way towards Coteau, with 2 hours worth of work to do. You can see conductor J.C giving me a wave through his window, as they take the curve just after crossing the border into Quebec from Ontario.

After a while of engine trouble, and figuring out the next while down at Stelco, the CN 0700 Job finally moves on to Mana, before taking off back to Hamilton’s Stuart yard.

The Parkdale Yard switcher is seen puffing smoke, as it shoves a cut of Gondolas back into the yard track. This unit is one of 3 CN SW1200’s left in existence on CN’s active roster, and it’s such a beauty to see this one still working away.

CN X388 is highballing through the outskirts of Kingston following Bath Rd. Upfront is CSXT 985 solo hauling 72 empty windmill blade cars, bound for Gaspe QC.

The CN 0700 Job is finally seen leaving Stelco, after having issues in the plant. One of the issues being that the traction motors were not properly operational in the 7241, and there was no water in the 7509. The 7241 was the main issue at hand for the crew, and they still had 6 more customers to serve after Stelco. But after having a talk with Oakville YM, he told them to only do Mana, then call it a day, otherwise they would run out of hours.

The CN 0700 Job is seen running LHF yet again down the N&NW Spur, with the two crew members at the front (or rear, you decide) operating the train by a remote control also known as “Beltpack”.

The CN 1600 Job backs up on to the tracks leading up to many of Hamiltons finest industries, by the Hamilton Port. Seen leading Long Hood Forward is GTW 5849 being operated by Beltpack, meaning there’s a remote control strapped to the conductors waist, and he can control the movement of the train, and the horn and bell etc.

CP H42 heads back up to Hamilton’s Kinnear yard, passing some very peculiar signals lighting the right of way for CN and CP using the Spur. In the consist are three of CP’s finest GMD GP38-2’s pulling freight, that they picked up at the industries by the Hamilton Port.

CP 132 (9-132) leads an extra train bound for Montreal, with Military unit CP 7022 up front, as it crosses the Mudlake Trestle, in Bolingbroke.

With BCOL 4641 being repainted, 4643 being scrapped, and 4644 stored, this one (4642) was a rarity when we all heard it would be leading 149. So what do we do? We all chased it along the Kingston Subdivision, as these CWL’s and this unit especially is on borrowed time. Here it’s seen splitting one of many classic searchlights at Ernestown, making somewhat good timing as it left Montreal a lot later than usual.

Just as CN L518 waits for trains to pass, after 20 or so minutes of waiting the crew finally gets their clear to go westward, from Kingston back to Belleville. In the lead is GTW 6425 which is now painted in CN, and CN 4770 still a cool leader to see even though it’s repainted. If you look closely at the details, you can see some hint of GTW underneath the red.

After L589 is done it’s work at CN’s Coteau Yard, they’re now seen returning back towards Ottawa on VIA’s (former CN) Alexandria Subdivision. Even though L589 is on VIA territory, the searchlights they’re passing by are CP Rail signals as the Diamond that they’re running over in the distance is CP’s Winchester Subdivision.

While ONT 211 is making its way up the Kirkland Lake Subdivision for Noranda, it’s now seen crossing the Route 117 drifting into a pile of snow left by a snow plow, that recently went by plowing the highway, making for this amazing snow shot. The chase was pretty difficult, as most of the side roads were waist deep in snow, so we could only make it to crossings in the main towns, or the ones that crossed the highways.

ONT 113 passes an old searchlight signal, at outside of Temiskaming Shores that once used to light the right of way for trains on the Temagami Subdivision. The crew on this train loved to have their pictures taken, if you could notice the pose the conductor is giving.

ONT 214 comes down getting close to its destination at ONR’s North Bay yard. There is a very interesting 5 engine EMD lashup, with 4 of the engines being SD75i’s, and Roberval Saguenay 61 being in the very back. Once they get to North Bay, they’ll drop off one 75i, and the RS 61 before continuing as ONT 113 back north to Englehart.

CN L538 is waiting at Cecile Jct to continue northbound back to Coteau, but it’s quite a mess cause the Beauharnois CSX local has to clear the Valleyfield first for M327 to come down, then when 327 clears, 538 has the right of way back to Coteau.
