Brand new CP ES44AC 8901 leads 111-08 west of Thunder Bay with older AC4400CW 9724. CP 8902 is towards the tailend providing the power in the middle of this 2 mile long hot shot.

During the Oktoberfest weekend in Kitchener-Waterloo, the Waterloo Central Railway (operated by the Southern Ontario Locomotive Restoration Society) brought out No. 9 for the round trips to St Jacob's and return. But after a round of morning trips the ailing locomitve wasn't doing to well. Here volunteers pause to discuss the situation before departing for St Jacob's.

Strong snow squalls that pounded the Kitchener-Waterloo area let up as light power (FP9 RLK 1400 with GEXR 3821 out of frame) framed by the VIA station arches, head west after rescuing 584's train up in Elmira on the Waterloo Spur. In the background power for GEXR 433 [Kitchener to London turn] readies for it's day's duties.

Located 100 miles east of Thunder Bay, its a long way to go for shot. But it was worth it, as the stars aligned with a perfect morning departure of train 112-29 at Thunder Bay. By the time it got to Kama Bay, the old gravel pit was in full sun, the trees a deep green and gorgeous blue Lake Superior.

After spotting two WC gons at the Harbour Metals gate, the crew on the CN 7273 (and slug CN 278) catch a warm summers breeze as they cross over Mountdale Ave at Montreal Street.

Since sidelined at the shops in Thunder Bay, CP GP9u 1574 works with sister 1629 interchanging CN revenue for empties in the "West Yard" as they work the afternoon Bowater job. In late 2009 CP went from 3 shifts a day to 2 and Abitibi-Bowater has thrown a chain link fence ultimately ruining this photo angle.

It's going to be a long trip for the crew of 343-19, CP 6014 West with 97 grain empties destined for the Minnedosa Sub in Manitoba, limps through the dip at Mile 5, Kaministiquia Sub. Less than three miles out of Westfort trailing SD40-2 6061 has blown its turbo-charger.

Rare encounters. The magical romance of a rickety branchline. In the middle of Simcoe County, a father and son stand at a rural crossing between Stayner and Collingwood as high nose GP9 CCGX 1001 lumbers its four car train along the Meaford Spur approaching the small rural hamlet of Batteaux. Due to dwindling traffic this portion of the Meaford Spur west Utopia to Collingwood will be abandoned by year end.

CP 220 rolls into the Lakehead passing the Thunder Bay International Airport. CP 9104-CP 3025-CEFX 108. Within a year train 220-221 would only run between Thunder Bay and Toronto leaving 222/223 and 440/441 to handle the traffic onto Winnipeg.

CN A43641-02, CN 2635 East passes through the area formerly known as "North" and "South Empire". Once sidings off the north and south main tracks, today only the north main track exists along with a small portion of (less than) 80lbs rail with two rarely used spurs extending off of it. MP 6, CN Kashabowie Subdivision.
