Ontario Northland SD75i 2103 along with SD40-2 1735 and SD75i 2104 crawl through a slow order at Kirkland Lake, Ontario with a rather sizeable train 211 consisting of mostly copper concentrates and empty acid tankcars bound for the smelter at Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec. <br><br>The trailing unit, ONT 2104, was lifted off of the same day's <a href="http://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=10543">train no. 308</a> at the siding at Jardin. 308's left behind southbound traffic would be lifted later that evening by when this train returns from Noranda as no. 512 for Englehart.

Ontario Northland GP38-2s 1809 and 1804 power the northbound Cochrane to Moosonee Polar Bear Express past Milepost 5.0 of the Island Falls subdivision. One for the subway fans. On the morning I left Cochrane, I saw two of these brand new TTC subway cars from Bombardier at a truck stop on the south end of town. Presumably these cars took the much longer route through Cochrane due to the very hilly and twisty highway 17 between Sault Ste. Marie and Wawa probably not being able to handle loads of this size.

The Agawa Canyon Tour unloads passengers at the Algoma Central Railway station in Sault Ste. Marie after completing another run to Agawa Canyon park. The handsome red sandstone structure beyond the far end of the train is the original Algoma Central Railway station and office building. No longer used by the railway, this structure is now a bank.

CN F40PH 105 basks in the late afternoon sun after returning to Sault Ste Marie with the Agawa Canyon Tour Train. (Operating with engines at each end in a push-pull configuration, 105 would have actually brought up the rear of the southbound train.) If you take a look at the windshield of the locomotive, note the forward facing camera just inside the cab. Video from the camera in the lead unit is relayed to monitor screens inside the upgraded passenger coaches used on the tour train.

CN SD70M-2 brings in the daily northbound freight train from the United States across the ancient swing bridge over the historic Canadian ship lock canal at Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Built in the 1890s to allow ship traffic on the lakes to pass between Lake Superior and Lake Huron, this lock now only handles smaller recreational traffic, with today's modern massive lake freighters using the newer, larger locks on the American side of the river at Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.

An almost perfectly matched set of wide-nose Huron Central GP40-2s (the third unit is a GP40-2L with the taller frame) switches cars at the Huron Central yard in Sault Ste. Marie.

While GP38-2 1801 switches local cars at left, train 213 from Englehart has just arrived with SD75i 2102. After wying the engine, the 2102 will leave again for Englehart on train 414.

CN F40PH 105 leads an 8-car 633, the northbound Algoma Central Railway Agawa Canyon Tour Train crosses the Bellevue Trestle enroute to Agawa Canyon Park. CN 104 is bringing up the rear of the train in a push-pull configuration so that no runaround move needs to be made at Canyon.

The bold new logo for the Algoma Central Railway's (now part of CN) Agawa Canyon Tour Train, as seen on coach AC 5705 "Spruce Lake". (All of the Algoma Central's "new" ex-Ski Train, ex-VIA/CN "Tempo" coaches are named after local lakes and rivers.)

The Agawa Canyon Tour Train logo on the nose notwithstanding, CN F40PH 106 leads train 632, the regular thrice-weekly Hearst-Sault Ste. Marie passenger train at Hawk Junction. This train and the aforementioned tour train are the last vestiges of the Algoma Central name, and is one of the last local passenger trains in the country not operated by VIA Rail.

CN F40PH 106 in the handsome new Agawa Canyon Tour Train livery heads CN train 632, the regular thrice-weekly passenger train from Hearst to Sault Ste. Marie. Running over an hour late into Hawk Junction, the train stops briefly to load a trio of canoers and their gear before continuing south.

CN train no. 501 (CN 8894 West, at left) departs Sarnia Yard for Port Huron, MI while alongside in the yard there is a flurry of activity as train 331 (middle, power not in shot) has just arrived and is in the process of yarding its train while a yard job works local cars in the secondary "C" yard behind the photographer. Meanwhile another yard job waits for 331 to clear up so it can continue the process of classifying cars in the main yard.
