Hi, my name is Jesse Acorn. I've taken pictures of trains since Nov. 2009, after being fascinated when an LRT station opened up across from my school. I previously used mainly a Nikon D2H, but now I almost always use a Nikon D7100.

CP 3084 (GP38-2) and CP 2323 (GP20C-ECO) lead an outbound train of 10 empty tank cars (marked Liquified Petroleum Gas) on the Hoadley Sub. The only customer on this subdivision is the Rimbey Gas Plant.

For a while in mid-2013, one could find unit coal trains like this one with mostly BN/BNSF cars on the CP Leduc Sub, pulled by CN and BNSF power. In this case, CN 2302 and 5616 are on the point, with 8890 as an end DPU. As of mid-2015, these trains no longer seem to run, and I haven't seen CN or BNSF power on the Leduc Sub. for quite a while, but other foreign power, especially UP, has remained fairly common.

A freshly painted ex-SOO SD60 idles on a side track of the yard at Dunmore on the last day of 2013. It's quite common to find locomotives idling on this particular bit of track.

The Edmonton Radial Railway Society's 930, an originally Australian tram built in 1946, comes south on the High Level Bridge on an evening during the Fringe Festival. It might appear there is excess space on the bridge deck to the sides of the track, and originally there were indeed tracks to either side of this central track, which were used by streetcars. CP ran trains along this central track until 1989. The tram in this photo, 930, has now been moved to the society's operations at Fort Edmonton Park.

The Edmonton Radial Railway Society operates about 3km of track between around Strathcona and Jasper Ave in Edmonton. Most notable about this line is that it crosses the High Level Bridge, which serves as a vehicle, pedestrian, and railway crossing of the North Saskatchewan River. Here, the society's 1970 Siemens-Duewag articulated tram is stopped at the Jasper Terminal on one of the last days of operation in 2013.

An ex-RPCX (Railroad Passenger Car Numbering Bureau) FP9 sits in Walker Yard on its way to Wainwright, now owned by a private collector along with RPCX 6311. It was built in Sept. 1954 as CN 6509.

The Holiday Train stopped in Leduc this year, led by a GP20C-ECO rather than the usual AC4400CW. Remarkable numbers of people showed up; the streets surrounding the train were absolutely saturated with parked vehicles. Of course, few of the people came up to see the locomotive, rather being packed around the stage car, which would open a few minutes after this photo was taken.

Since around mid-2013, foreign power has become not all that uncommon on the CP Leduc sub. Especially seen are BNSF and UP units, such as this UP ES44AC, though I've also spotted some belonging to NS and CN. If the 5501 leading wasn't enough, the end DPU was UP 5500!

Led by Alberta Prairie's 1118, a GMD1m, the day's train pulls into the station at Big Valley. 1118 was originally a CN unit, then to Canadian Railserve in 1997, Central Western Railway in 5/1998, and finally Alberta Prairie.

SOO 4420, a GP38-2 with a nicely mismatched set of numberboards and a burned out headlight, leads the returning train from the Rimbey Gas Plant with about 26 cars of liquefied petroleum gas in tow. The second unit is 2235, a GP20C-ECO, the first I'd seen on this line.

A long eastbound intermodal passes over a nice concrete bridge over Wabamun Lake on the Edson Sub. This particular bridge is often used by fishermen as a place to fish off of. Just before this train arrived there were about three fishermen out on the bridge.

Possibly one of the best trains for long-exposure photography, the CP Holiday Train passes over the 99th Street crossing on the Scotford sub, just seconds away from joining up with the Leduc Sub.

A great 6-unit all-EMD/GMD consist of CN 5529, 5266, GTW 5937, CN 5279, GTW 5933, and CN 9581 pull their train south headed for Walker Yard. This mixed freight train was around 136 cars long, with many being loaded (centerbeam flat) cars, which maybe explains why such a large (18,800 hp) consist was used. Some units may have been inactive though.

Canadian Fertilizer's SW8 rests on the service track after a long week of work. This unit was built 6/1951 as CP 6706, sold to Canadian Fertilizer 1/1990. I was told by staff that the unit is due for replacement in 2015. Thanks to the friendly staff for letting me inside the facility to take pictures.

Leased by CP, CEFX 1020 and 1024 pull a lengthy mixed freight southbound. Both units are GE AC4400CW, and are nicknamed "Bluebirds" due to the CEFX paint.

CCGX 4014, an ex-CN GP9RM owned by Cando Contracting, idles on a siding at around Mile 2 on the CN Camrose Sub. The facility that it works at, Esso Imperial Oil, is just a little ways north.

A rare move, CP Work Hoadley with 3092 and 3020 is shown here idling at Aspen Beach. The day after this photo was taken, the train would move farther to around Forshee. The Hoadley Sub had been very inactive for around two years prior, due to poor track conditions and (rumored) contract issues with their only producer on the line, the gas plant at Homeglen/Rimbey. It was quite active in 2012, but traffic seems to have greatly declined again in 2013.

Although it looks in fairly rough shape, this ex-CN GP9RM was only at the Alberta Railway Museum for generator replacement. It has since been returned to service.

An interesting lash-up with CP 8753, 9353, 3094, 8790, 3037, and 3071. The last two GP38-2 units lead a train the next day from Red Deer to Homeglen and back on the Hoadley sub.
