![Freshly repainted CP 6012 and sister 5871 lug a heavy welded rail train up the Palgrave hill on a gloomy summer afternoon. CP's recent SD40-2 overhaul program has brought many units, including 6012, out of storage for repairs and a fresh coat of paint courtesy of Progress Rail.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/DSC_0462_edited-200x150.jpg)

The 104 is the more recent of the two, wearing paint designed as a cross between ETR's original green and later black chevron liveries.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/DSC_0329_edited-200x150.jpg)

Said locomotive, the SSR 136, has been featured in several TV shows, including National Dream.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/DSC_0771_edited-200x150.jpg)

![In an era of GP20ECOs dominating CP local freights, railways like the OSR who still use their better looking predecessor, the GP9U, are becoming more and more appreciated. OSR 8235 looks stylish in CP Action Red while pulling into Tillsonburg Yard.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/DSC_0497_edited_edited-200x150.jpg)

CP's fleet of SD70ACUs look sharp in the newest rendition of the famed Candy Apple Red colours, with the recently revived golden beaver herald on the long hood.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/DSC_0726_edited_edited-200x150.jpg)

![Cutting through the morning fog west of Woodstock, ON, the 710 engine of CP's Air Force Military unit sounds eerily similar to the nose-mounted minigun on an American A-10 Warthog fighter plane. These legendary planes will be kept in service until at least 2040, and we can all hope CP 7023 will be around even longer!](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/DSC_0423_edited2-200x150.jpg)

![In light of a recent power shortage, the York Durham Heritage Railway has reached a deal with Ontario Northland to lease out an old high-hood GP9 for the near future. After a tumultuous delivery journey and several arguments between CN and Metrolinx over who should deliver it, the ONT 1603 is seen departing Uxbridge on a sunny May morning with a long train full of locals and tourists.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/DSC_0637_edited-200x150.jpg)

![With the recent removal of most of the old telegraph poles on the CN Bala mainline from Toronto to Washago, the S curve looking north through Gormley provides a refreshing reminder of the railway's past. With dynamic brakes whining, a venerable duo of EMD SD70/75 series diesels roll Q108 south towards Doncaster.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/DSC_0358_edited2-200x150.jpg)

CN 3069 and 3008 led consecutive northbounds not even a week prior, giving local railfans a heritage hat trick of sorts.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/DSC_0702moved_edited2-200x150.jpg)

![They say the city never sleeps, but it sure feels like it's just waking up on this sunny Toronto morning as a GO train dwarfed by the CN tower shuttles commuters towards Union Station. It's hard to believe this area of the city was once an expansive rail yard!](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/DSC_0463_edited-200x150.jpg)

![CN Q109 flies over the town of Parry Sound on its way north (and eventually east) to Vancouver. The massive trestle is actually part of the Canadian Pacific Parry Sound Subdivision, which hosts CN northbounds as part of a directional running agreement between the 2 companies. Completed in 1907, the trestle is the longest rail bridge in the province and provides a spectacle to the otherwise sleepy town below it.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/DSC_0268_edited-200x150.jpg)

![A southbound CP stack train blasts under the 9th Line wooden bridge near Beeton, Ontario on a windy October day. After a closure for repairs, it was thought the nostalgic road bridge would be replaced but it was soon repaired and re-opened for the near future. ![CN 7258, a venerable GP9RM decked out with IPO 15 prints from 2010, hauls a long cut of cars south as it flat switches the west end of MacMillan Yard north of Toronto on a chilly December morning. The IPO 15 stickers, highlighting 15 years of CN being a publicly traded company, sport an SD70I while this print was ironically never applied to one, being featured solely on 7258 and a handful of Dash 8s. More recently, CN introduced a small fleet of heritage units in 2020 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of this occasion.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/DSC_0440_edited-200x150.jpg)

![After hearing the day before that South Simcoe Railway 136 was to have its potential last run that weekend, I made an effort to shoot this historic steamer on what could very well be its final trip north to Beeton. 136 needs a new boiler and unless $600,000 can be raised for the purchase, it will remain out of service and the diesel will be in charge of SSR operations.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/DSC_0913_edited-2facebook-200x150.jpg)
