On April 12th of 2015, we traveled to Streetsville, Ontario to see Canadian Pacific train #244 with a CSX Transportation unit sandwiched between a CP General Electric AC400CW and a GMD GP20C-ECO locomotive. The shiny apple red GP20C-ECO, has been freshly rebuilt and re-painted from older SD40-2 models that are becoming rare to come across. Here, the train is pictured passing the Thomas Street railroad crossing on its way to CP's Toronto Yard

After spending a nice relaxing day track-side at various locations along CN's York Subdivision's, with the day coming to an end I was treated to a eastbound autorack train with CN 5726 leading Illinois Central 9573, which was online and working. 9573, was built in 1972, and is a EMD GP38-2 locomotive with 2000 horsepower to it, and its maximum speed being 65mp/h. With only 14 left, this was my first time seeing one of these and probably one of the last.

Canadian Pacific's 'Streetsville Turn' or train T-14, a Monday To Friday West Toronto to Streetsville and back local has just finished switching at the Mondelez plant and is now flooring it on the main to Streetsville Yard, only about 2 miles down the tracks. This days T-14 had 2 freshly rebuilt ECO units in the lead. ECO units are rebuilt from older GP9U locomotives.

CP's 'Streetsville Turn' just finished switching the 'new' ADM plant across the tracks, and has backed up to Erindale on the main to cross over to the north track, and has just arrived to the 'old' ADM to lift the grainers sitting there.

CN GP9RM 4116 is on point of this days 551 which moves cars from Aldershot Yard in Aldershot to Hamilton Yard in Hamilton daily. It is seen here passing by a pedestrian bridge leading to Royal Botanical Gardens on the approach to CN Bayview Junction between the Oakville, Grimsby and Dundas Subdivisions.

Old meets new, one of the newly acquired Flexity Outlook streetcars is operating on the 510 Spadina Route - the only route that meets the sufficient needs of these streetcars. By 2019, all 11 of Toronto Transit Commission's streetcar routes will have these new streetcars in operation.

Class leading TTC 4400, one of the newly acquired streetcars, runs on Spadina Ave by the campus of the University of Toronto. Now, time to photograph some of the older streetcar models before they go 'extinct' at the snap of a finger.

Its -25, feeling like -40 with the wind. Its cold. And Canadian National intermodal freight train Q10251 from British Columbia, Canada rolls by with a fresh EMCC SD70M-2 on point. About midway, was an Illinois Central GE DASH 9-44CW in CN paint locomotive helping.

Flying through leaving a mark.. Canadian Pacific train 147, usually consisting of manifest is just autoracks today, with a decent variety of some of the power that came east in the last few days. After passing our cameras, it held at West Toronto for a few minutes for an unknown reason (likely for CP 550 to clear) which came not too long after on the other track.

Canadian Pacific oil train 550 heads east thundering by Rosedale with 8 locomotives in charge, including a Union Pacific SD9043MAC leading and 2 other UP locomotives, and a few CP locomotives in the trail. I'm definitely happy to be one of the people to bag this one.

As the clouds pass Canadian National high priority intermodal train Q10451 is coming from British Columbia on the west coast of Canada with a SD75I leading. It has just come off of the Bala Subdivision at CN Doncaster Junction, and has a few more miles to go on the York and Halton Subdivisions before reaching its final destination of Brampton Intermodal Terminal in Toronto.

My first catch of 2015 seems okay, manifest train M31441 from Winnipeg led by Illinois Central 2721, followed by a SD60F and DASH 8-40CM, and a DASH 9-44CW as DPU. Now that they have put signals up at this spot I've known for a long time, the shot is actually pretty decent and I will definitely come back for more. Now, to get a train in perfect light here...

ALCO RS-11 3612 is in charge of the Santa train excursion on the York Durham Heritage Railway. In this picture, you can see them charge by Owen Rd just outside of Uxbridge. This is their last run this year until early summer 2015.

York Durham Heritage Railway's cab-car 101 sits at the Uxbridge station, awaiting its next run at 13:00 on a beautiful sunny Saturday morning. There is an ALCO RS-11 on the tail.

The 2014 version of the CP Holiday Train, now using the newer GP20C-ECO locomotives instead of the AC4400CW's, tears through the small town of Grafton, Ontario towards its next show stop in Bowmanville. Visit cpr.ca for the Holiday Train schedule. At each stop, admission is free and spectators get to watch a performance from the train. However, bringing a non-perishable food item for a local food bank is highly recommended!

CP 01H rests in Lambton Yard, on their final show of the day in Toronto. In the next week or so, this train will be all the way on the west coast of Canada. The purpose of this train is for spectators to donate non-perishable food items for local food banks at the show. Admission is free. Visit www.cpr.ca for the Holiday Train schedule.

Today, I decided the visit a famous attraction in Toronto, the Ripley's Aquarium. While crossing the SkyWalk on the way there, I saw that down the tracks this particular machine was working on the tracks in the distance. After visiting the aquarium, I stopped at this spot right behind it for a while and heard a few blasts of a odd sounding air horn. Minutes later, I see this thing speeding down the tracks and I decided to try a pan shot as this machine will just fit in the camera frame, and it was going fast enough for a good one. Thankfully I didn't screw up, and I think it turned out fine. The machine likely belongs to the Toronto Terminals Railway which owns the tracks around Toronto's Union Station which is just to the right of where this image was taken. I believe it used for replacing ties. I've seen one of these before also being transported on the Canadian National Newmarket Subdivision in Huntsville, ON.

Here are 2 signs of winter, snow falling, and of course, the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train. As I woke up this morning, I got a a timely notification that both Holiday Train consists (The U.S and Canadian) were running together to Montreal, where they'll split and go their directions at the end of the month. I thought it'd be pretty cool, and as I got a notification that they passed Palgrave, Ontario I immediately headed out to the tracks with about 10 minutes to spare to set up my camera. My zoomed in shot didn't turn out as good as the camera focused on the snow instead of the train, but thankfully I grabbed this shot which came out fine before the train passed. See www.cpr.ca for the schedule of the Holiday Train. The train stops in major cities and towns, with the Christmas lights on, and viewers can watch for free, however are encouraged to donate a non-perishable food item for a local food bank. There will also be a performance at every stop.
