Well, it's been quite a weekend. Yesterday (Saturday) there was a Toronto-London excursion with the 6218 and, today (Sunday), a Toronto-Lindsay-Haliburton excursion with the 6218 as far as Lindsay and a pair of GMD1 taking the train into Haliburton. One last shot on the return trip...somewhere on the Uxbridge sub--can one of our members identify the location?

Steam servicing facilities are still in place as an excursion sponsored by the Buffalo and Rochester Chapter, NRHS arrives in Zephyr for a water stop before returning to Fort Erie. July 1960 was a good month--the weekend before, the UCRS sponsored a Toronto-Niagara Falls-Toronto excursion with the 6167...who told you steam was dead?!?

Credit Valley 4-6-0 1057 (Ontario Rail Association) approaches the Winston Churchill crossing east of Georgetown on a special run to Toronto Union Station, celebrating the commencement of GO Transit service to Georgetown in April 1974. This special run was made on the Saturday prior to opening and the first revenue GO trains ran on Monday 29 April 1974.

On the return trip, CN 570 (Aldershot-MacMillan Yard turn) makes good time heading downhill past mile 30 on the Halton sub. Power is recently rebuilt AC44C6M 3312 (originally 2615) and ES44AC 2777 (formerly CREX 1337, acquired by CN in 2022).

Approaching Bretville Jct, A 44251 crosses the North Saskatchewan river before turning south and heading for Calgary. 67 cars (intermodal up front and merchandise on the tail end) behind SD75ACC 8301(rebuilt from 5684) and IC 2707. The chase is on!

Although mostly grain, this train also had lumber and other merchandise traffic. The CP-KCS merger certainly has made shooting CP more interesting as very different locomotives show up in familiar locations. An example is train 701, led by KCSM 4886, crossing the Ottertail River on a beautiful day in January 2025.

Scheduled to leave Edmonton just after midnight, VIA No. 1, the Canadian, makes a rare daylight appearance on the Edson sub running over 10 hours late. Twelve cars, including three domes, are a fine sight led by F40s 6455 and 6415.

Roughly three months after the devastating November 1981 VIA cuts when the Super Continental was discontinued, "The Canadian" is leaving the City of Winnipeg as it makes its way west. It will switch from CN's Rivers sub to the CP Carberry sub using the connecting track at West Tower (just beyond the Portage la Prairie station) then continue over the traditional CP route through Regina and Calgary before rejoining CN in the Lower Mainland with a final destination of the former CN station in Vancouver. Alas, this routing will end in January 1990 when the Canadian is cut back from a daily train to three days per week and permanently routed over CN lines. Most of VIA's former CP units will be retired by 1983 (with the exception of several which were remanufactured and remained in service until 1990). So, enjoy this scene from over 40 years ago as three former CP units (FP9 1406 in CP Rail paint, an FP9 repainted for VIA, and one of VIA's two E8As also in VIA paint) lead the "pride of the fleet" west across the prairies.

Sunday's "catch of the day"--CN 397 with BC Rail heritage unit 3115 and GECX 2029, one of the last GECX units still in blue, approaching Tremaine Road in north Burlington. For the record, the DPU was CN 2865.
