Following up <a href="http://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=28539">Eric May’s photo</a> of the Great Gorge Route, here is International Railway Company 732 posing on the Canadian side. (Perhaps one of our Niagara hands can identify the bridge in the background and pinpoint the exact location.)

This 2 1/4 x 4 1/2 print by an unknown photographer is dated May 20, 1932, less than five months before the Canadian portion of the line was abandoned.

Returning from Macmillan Yard about 4 hours earlier than usual, GEXR had to wait at Georgetown station for VIA 84 (with 903 trailing) to clear the Guelph Sub.

The crane at right is one of several involved in building a third track over Silver Creek and McNabb Street, part of the extensive improvements in the Georgetown area to allow all day GO service on the Kitchener line.

When they were both blue, GSCX 7362 and 7369 approach the Main Street N. overpass in Georgetown. Not long after this the old signals were removed to make way for a third track, to accomodate increased GO service.

A. W. Mooney's <a href="http://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=12431">photo</a> and subsequent discussion about the 1979 Mississauga derailment reminded me of another disaster that impacted rail operations (although much less severely) in the Mississauga area a year earlier.<br><br>On October 2, 1978, a tank of furnace oil caught fire at the Texaco refinery in Port Credit. The cause was arson by a Texaco employee. The proximity of the fire to the CN tracks (immediately behind the line of tank cars)can be seen in this photo, taken from Lakeshore Road at about 8:00 AM the next morning. At lower left is the spur leading to the main refinery complex, which was on the south side of Lakeshore. The building at right was also owned by Texaco. A TD-Canada Trust bank currently occupies this spot.
