And how old is this Railway Employee in the photograph?
The swing operator – what great summer job for a student! Too bad the head cam had yet to be invented! Even in 1978 – to walk into Bolton station was stepping back into another era!

I was seventeen, in my second month as an employee. I still remember these pictures being taken, having someone take your picture on the job was pretty rare. I retired some 37 years later. Being a spare operator was still one of the best jobs I ever held.
