Did the Tempo RS18′s ever get used for freight? can’t find a picture on this site..
They went up to mac yard for service quite a bit, but in 6 years, I never saw one on a freight.
Per Ron Bowman’s comment on this shot: http://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=28214
“CN had a job out on Mimico that ran to Oshawa. It used passenger power laying over between runs. I caught the job one night & we had an FPA-4 leading to Oshawa & a Tempo RS-18 leading the return trip.”
That’s an incredibly long version of #75. Looks like around 20 cars. Amazing capture !
Aitch, on Sundays, in the fall/winter/spring seasons, the noon departure for London/Windsor was always a heavily patronized train, including many university and college students returning to Western and University of Windsor, quite often being 16, 17 and sometimes 18 cars long – hence the third unit. Friday afternoon trains also required extra cars, but other days Tempo trains ran on this route with 8 – 10 cars only requiring 2 Tempo diesel units as seen in Ron Bowman’s picture. Not saying it didn’t happen, but don’t remember seeing a 20 car Tempo train. Thanks for your comment, John
Thanks for that very interesting info John. I guess my eyes were playing tricks on me. When I look closer at the image I see that what made the train appear extremely long are actually cars on the adjacent track; hence my comment. Thanks again.
