Caption: Following up on Michael Klauck's recent posting, here we see NS&T interurban car 83 approaching the intersection of Main and Elm Streets southbound for Port Colborne station. Note the yellow markings on posts (were these car stops for passengers?), the Cities Service station - now an ESSO as Michael notes - and the vintage automobiles.
NS&T car 83 was built in 1924 by the NS&T for the Toronto Suburban Railway as their 107, serving there until shutdown on August 15, 1931. It would be moved back to the NS&T in 1935 and renumbered 83, painted in vermillion and cream as seen above. By March 1956, 83, along with other equipment, would be painted into CNR green, NS&T being under CNR Electric Lines. Going by this date this undated slide was shot in spring 1955 or earlier.

Wow Jacob, what a picture for NS&T enthusiasts ! Looks like car 83 is rolling right through the intersection on its way to Port Colborne CNR/NS&T station. Yes, as much as I can remember, the yellow painted posts were stops for the interurban cars. When 83, 82, 40 & 41, were painted in CNR green, didn’t think they were never as photogenic as they were in their distinctive NS&T colour scheme. Do you have any other NS&T colour slides ? Thanks very much for .posting, John
Thanks John, I have a handful of NS&T slides in colour… check back tomorrow… I’ll try to have 1 or 2 more submitted. 83 features prominently in them, in both vermillion & cream and green.
That is pretty awesome, never seen a color photo of the Interurbans on that section of the line, the grey building on the left is Elm Street School… now an apartment building, and the photo shows my Great-Grandparents property before it was subdivided on the west side of Elm..very neat
