Caption: Passing Mile 4 on the Owen Sound Subdivision as it approaches the 7th Line crossing, the CN rail salvage train is viewed just outside the town of Harriston. Having run-around the rail cars at Palmerston, GP9RM’s 4115 and 4140 are shoving the lengthy train the remaining five miles from Palmerston into Harriston where the rail removal process will eventually begin.
Today this area looks surprisingly similar, minus the crossing signs and rails, as it now is part of the 12.4-kilometer Whites Junction Trail.

Miss seeing that type of crossbucks. Takes me back in time, when as a child seeing one always excited me of the possibility of coming across a train. Also miss seeing trains in this region. Glad you documented this historic event
It never ceases to amaze how the companies have lots of $ available to remove mainline rails….and the future need arrives, good luck trying to get same to replace the removed rails…sdfourty
@Todd Steinman- This was my first time photographing the wooden crossbucks on a line so it was very cool to see. And Harriston had some as well still at the time.
@sdfourty- Yes, I agree 100%.
The crossing arms on this one are Steel though.
Wallaceburg had a similar one in service until 2013.
@Host- Yes, you right my mistake. I should have said “old style.”
