Brand new TTC H1 subway cars 5458 and 5459 make a demonstration run through the wash rack at Greenwood Yard car shops, during a tour of the new Greenwood Yard, shops and subway line a few days before official opening day on February 26th 1966. Interior wash racks were installed in the car shop building at Greenwood where cars are cleaned and inspected before service, in order to allow washing cars' exteriors during the winter to prevent things from freezing up. Warm air jets dry the car off after going through the wash rack, and interiors were cleaned by shop forces at the same time.

For the film enthusiasts, this was noted by John on the slide as shot at f4.0 at 1/50 of a second, on ASA 25 (!) Kodachrome slide film, underexposed by one stop, so the entire image was really, really dark. Even the scanner settings and some editing couldn't make any of the scans sufficiently bright, so the slide was illuminated by a bright light source and shot with a DSLR zoomed in very close, and edited from there.

John F. Bromley photo, Dan Dell'Unto collection slide.
