Caption: I was rather pleased to find Torch River Rail's GMD-1u sitting at it's headquarters in Choiceland. But, it looks as though the stacks are capped.
Wondering what this is all about, knowing they only have the one unit. Perhaps this road only ships grain and the season is done? Just curious.
Of the photos I shot of this unit, I liked this one best, although against the weak sun of the day. This locomotive came from CN at the startup of the 27 mile TRV in 2008.

I’d think there’d still be grain on the move at this time of year and longer. I believe they can go weeks at a time between runs however.

My assumption around grain has been that it moves year-round based on what rail networks can handle and what the market demands for commodities.

Glad you find it as interesting as I do. I remembered it from when I visited Choiceland; did some digging on them afterwards. The operation out there is a very cool story!
All those little communities out there, with their own grain operation and diminutive switchers are rather fascinating in their own right compared to what we see in Southern Ontario. Everyone helps each other.
