Caption:
The restored ( 2005 ) Edmundston CPR station originally built by the CPR circa 1930, from plans supplied by the office of the CPR’s Chief Engineer in Montreal.
Restoration included retaining much of the original interior room and related woodworking.
The station is a Regional Information Center and the Edmundston Madawaska Tourism Office. Current transportation uses include a cycling trail rest stop and an electric vehicle recharge station,
what's interesting
The 1930 station replaced a two story station built by a predecessor railway, the New Brunswick Land and Railway ( 1881 name change to New Brunswick Railway ).
CPR sold off most N B assets * (timber lands and railway lands, rights of way) by 1941 to the Irving group, retaining operational rights. Most CPR N.B. service ended circa 1987, * excepting CAR (McAdam) line.
The caboose: moved to CP Edmundston station location 2008 is ex CPR Angus built wood caboose (number unknown) formerly at Grand Bay – Westfield N B ( thank you Trackside Guide)
