Caption: I've had an affinity for Hamilton's industrial core since I arrived in 1988 and wouldn't you know I spent quite some time in the last decade and change hunting (sometimes just driving through) for activity and toting my camera for rail and non rail action. With mixed results, some hunts went well, some not so well, but this was the ONLY time I was able to find Stelco units in action before US Steel repainted all of their equipment.
I posted another view of Stelco #84 a few years ago (With minimal processing - this photo is what happens once you learn how to process!) and others such as Keith Maccauley have done the same, even Doug Page photographed #84 in 1959 on delivery (Built 11-59 - per TSG). Number 84 has lived its entire life within the confines of this facility in the employ of Stelco. But guess what? This is kind of a swansong, hopefully proven false, because rumours swirled that Stelco would switch to trackmobile, and guess what, I am told they are now using a trackmobile. The fate and future of Stelco's GMDD SW's are now in the hands of the infidel's performance - I have my doubts if Stelco returns to life that it'll hold up - nearby CN Steel Centre switched from Trackmobile to SW 1200 7304 in 2015 and the trackmobile was SLLLOOOWWW. We're now going to wait and see what happens.. if any of these units leave the property.. don't hold your breath for the return though.
