Caption: This classic old MLW FA-1, built in 1950 is now protected indoors at the Canadian Railway Museum (Exporail) at Delson, Quebec. Cosmetically restored and beautiful. But there was a time when the old cab unit languished outdoors at the Museum of Science & Technology, suffering from the cruel elements of the Ottawa winters. This locomotive was retired from active duties in 1968. In 1969 she went on display. In 1986, it was off to Montreal, where a new paint job was applied and in 1989 it was over to Exporail. After just reading about the loss of the old CP 4723 to the scrapper at Farnham, it is good to know not everything diesel is tossed in this country.

Ottawa has one of the last two FM C-Liners in storage (CPR). I would love to see that locomotive get similar attention. Talk about a rare bird! CNR 9400 wears CN’s most beautiful color scheme.
what is the purpose of red piece of sheet metal in the engineers window? vandals?
Thats right, Ralph. It appears vandals had tried to gain entrance. Probably looking for something loose to steal. Sad.
