Caption: Here's the old CN Madoc station, located in the west side of town. The disused building had suffered from a fire recently, arson, I would guess considering it had been an unused structure for a number of years. I understand it was pulled down not long after this 1976 image. The track in the foreground, once the Belleville & North Hastings Railway, was pulled up in 1984. This is still another old station which, to me, is shrouded in mystery as to when it was built, when it died, and when it was destroyed.

The information I had on this station is interesting. The line was originally the Central Ontario Railway. It was eventually gobbled up by the GTR…who more than likely built this structure before the GTR itself was transformed into the CNR that we all know today. Estimated date this station was built I’d say 1915…or early 20s. As for the station itself….I had information that it stood into the late 90′s before being finally demolished as the structure had become quite unstable due to that fire damage.
Can anyone else shed some light?
Thanks, Todd. I would say that if this building lasted even until 1990, it would be amazing in itself. Fourteen years as a hazard? I guess there must have been some move to save it, otherwise it would have been gone very soon. Besides C.O.R., the Grand Junction Rwy figured in the scheme of things. And the BNHR terminated somewhere in Madoc. I figured at the station/yard.
