I always find it remarkable to see Hudsons and Pacifics relegated to freight service. Here are finely tuned, high speed machines, pulling trains that might have been handled by a single heavy Mikado. Of course, I can’t imagine anyone taking a torch to a Royal Hudson anyway…
Mikados were usually the road engines on this run. Helpers were removed after 55 miles-a long pull.
