Sometimes New York Central power (and later Penn Central) found its way onto the Canadian Pacific, either through run-through, borrowed or pooled power arrangements. Here, a pair of Canadian-built CASO-assigned NYC GP9's (7431 and 7429, still in NYC colours despite the Penn Central merger 4 years previous) team up with a CP SW1200RS, heading a CP freight westbound through West Toronto junction enroute to Buffalo.

  3. Also worth noting, this train would have used the Canpa Sub to connect with CN at Canpa (abbreviation for Canadian Pacific?) near Mimico.
    The Hamilton trains to and from Tronto used the CN to get there up, until a decade or so ago, not the longer CP route via Guelph Jct. now used

  4. This is a wonderful site and sometimes I find something that I hadn’t noticed before. Would this be “The Starlite” train from Toronto to Buffalo via CP to TH&B in Hamilton?

  5. Yes, would most certainly be STARLITE. The CP engine is going to Hamilton to swap out one of the Goderich Sub units which would tie up at TH&B Chatham Street enginehouse during layovers. These GP9′s themselves are also laying over having brought the KINNEAR ( PC train FT-1) from Buffalo earlier in the morning. And after making a roundtrip to Hamilton, they’ll be on KINNEAR ( TF-2 ) after midnight, heading back to Buffalo.
