Caption: M for Magnificent, ( ...well, some of the time...)
On a cool, breezy and mainly cloudy early April 1980 Saturday a typical uninteresting Galt Subdivision afternoon, developed into an Alcophile's delight.
On the approach to Campbellville - on the grade up the Escarpment - CP Rail extra 4723 west ( with 4550 ) stalled when #4723 shut down. In a fleeting sunny break, here a silent M636 #4723 coasts by while M630 #4550 does all the work. First shot in the sequence of four, near Canyon Road. April 1980 Kodachrome by S.Danko.

Elegant proof that TT 85′ and /or 89′ TOFC flats operated on CP in southern Ontario. That type of operation seems so far removed today, and it’s nice to know that my Atlas, BLMA, and Trainworx flats are right at home!
Oh, and of course the pride of the fleet pulled them.
I caught this action in the same spot, but I don’t remember anyone being beside me. Is my memory that bad?
Jim: you parked your two door 67 Chev beside my 77 Chev at the Canyon Rd level crossing – and I believe you walked farther east to capture the action….Steve.
You’ve got a great memory Steve! My Chev has probably been recycled several times since then.
This is awesome.
Gents, a thought, I’ve walked into this shot a couple of times, and had been told that the (fairly recent) owners didn’t like people on their bridge due to horses. Well, those people are gone, and the property was basically empty but was on the market last year (probably sold now).
Were they not friendly to fans back in the day and was walking up the only option?
It is a lovely spot… of course, it’s private property.
I’ve never actually stood on the bridge, but on the side of the cut east of it, and that was 40 years ago. About a year ago I asked the owner if I could stand on the bridge and he said no. To be clear, he wasn’t very friendly.
