Caption: The original London GP-7 heading eastbound exiting the Townline Tunnel in an all TH&B consist, destination Port Colborne via the CNR Humberstone Sub. The aptly named Townline Tunnel forms the municipal boundary between Welland and Port Colborne. Most of the previous Welland Canal rail crossings (TH&B/NYC) in this area took place in central Welland between Broadway and Lincoln Streets. #71 has less than a year to go before her tragic ending just west of here in Fenwick, ON - February 1980. TH&B/CPR kept running rights into Port Colborne until 1988. Today, on the Port Colborne side of the municipal town line (just south of where this photo is taken) is the site of one of the largest industrial projects in Canada, the $1.7B ASAHI KASEI Battery Separator materials plant. Will it require rail service via the seldomly used Humberstone Spur ?? Time will tell.

Tunnel cut shots will always get a star from me. Beauty!
Thank-you Sir… you put a smile on my face… much appreciated..
What a great shot Mike.
Back in the mid 80s grade 7-8 me and my buddy would bike from Port behind the Robin Hood along the old canal to Dain City then along the new by pass and watch trains on the west side of the tunnel. As we got older we would bike down the east side of the canal to the tunnel and bike up to Miller Road over pass to catch an eastbound climbing the hill, the overpass kept us out of the summer sun. Thank you, Bill
Hey Bill… glad it stirred some positive grey matter memories for you… we were truly fortunate to live in Pt.C/Welland at that time, the variety of rail traffic, US roads, and my (our) favorite the TH&B…there was always something if you wanted to look…Cheers MIKE
I can see GIO accessing the plant from their line!
I hope !
