Caption: Throughout their careers, VIA's LRC locomotives were plagued by reliability problems--especially in the early years. In fact, many were removed from service as VIAs F40PH-2D units became available to cover corridor schedules in the late 1980s and early 1990s. (A few hung on until the P42s were delivered in 2001.) On this January day in 1983, CN GP9 4120 has come to the rescue assisting Toronto-Windsor train 72 through Hamilton West as it passes an eastbound CN freight led by GP40-2LW 9405, M420W 2548 and M420W 2536. Also note the Tempo passenger cars.
