Leased JLCX 3502 is seen on a beautiful morning coming back from the yard down by Sugarloaf Harbour with a half dozen cars. The railroad regularly switches at the old Robin Hood building about a mile north along the canal.
This image was shot at Kent St in the lower city.
I've not seen this unit around recently. Has it been returned? Is it out of service?

  1. Great minds think alike haha. This unit is out in Alberta now. They actually just had one of the former sw14’s from Martech delivered in GIO paint today.

  2. What a coincidence, eh, Docta”? This unit was nice to see while it lasted. I’m not too keen on the grey we see around now.

  3. So to make sure your question is answered, this unit was returned to leassor and sent to to Lambton for joint inspection in 2024, and JLCX ordered upgrades to the unit before its next assignment. It was re-wired, de-turboed, overhauled, and upgraded to dash 3 specs.

It’s now in Prentiss AB working the Dow refinery, as Watco got a contract and is using approx 3 JLCX locomotives.

It was fun while it lasted.

1506 has been delivered to GIO and is planned to replace 7290, which should be going to a new assignment somewhere else, from what I am told won’t be on GIO anymore.

    We’ll see what actually happens.

  4. Mucho thanks, Steve ! Revolving doors with this outfit.

  5. I just today checked the J&L Consulting Ltd. homepage and they feature the 3502 3 times on that opening page. It would seem there are others who see the 3502 as a great unit to capture with a camera. :-)
That shade of red with the white hand rails looks great.

  6. Those GP35′s as-built weren’t very reliable with their complicated electrical and transition systems, it makes sense why many were de-turbo’ed and upgraded to GP38-3′s over time.
