Caption: How things change. Earlier this month marked a year since the last GIO/Trillium train through their northern trackage in St Catharines/Merritton/Thorold. But a year beforehand, they were kept very busy. In 2023, GIO were tasked with bringing in empty coil cars to Trenergy for fitting of brand new NS hoods. While GIO usually was a twice a week operation, this movement kept them very busy, and extras were often needed. Here, we see a management run extra with GP35 JLCX 3502 at the helm. 3502 is now out somewhere around Edmonton, and this line sits abandon, collecting weeds and rust as the days toll on.

Very nice shot!
Thanks Mike!
Nice shot… it was a good run while it lasted
3502 is at Dow in Prentiss AB, operated by Watco using JLCX power.
Nice angle, never seen this one before. Crossing fingers rail service may come back.
Thanks Steve. Quite the travel for it to go.
I was only able to get this shot on a cloudy day as the sun would’ve been directly behind it. Here’s to hoping we see more action here one day.
You should see the work that was done to it.
All new wiring. De-turboed. New dash 3 controls. Many major component replacements too.
It’s a gp38-3 now. The light on the top is also gone
It definitely needed the upgrades. I think I saw this thing sidelined more than I actually saw it in use.
Sherwood Park is a long way thru St Catharines from Tennessee Pass as DRGW 3405,
At least it lived!
Is the tank car a buffer car? Why the need for one? It seems to be the opposite of having a buffer car for a unit tank train.
Should be a car for Kemira.
Tank car was a Kemira car!
