Caption: The Unimin Blue Mountain mine is shown at Blue Mountain (Havelock-Belmont-Methuen Township), at the end of CP's Nephton Sub, looking east off County 6 Road. Three CP hoppers visible by the mine: an old CP "slab side", a 383000-series aluminum "tank hopper", and a more modern cylindrical hopper.
The Blue Mountain and Nephton nepheline mines were the reason the CP constructed their Nephton Sub from Havelock all the way to the north in the 1950's, and keep operating it plus the Havelock Sub to this day (for more information, see the late Ray Kennedy's page on Old Time Trains).

It is a rare shot…the mine road north side of Lake Kasshabog is open to cottage owners…where Cty Rd 6 ends, UNIMIN (now COVIA) had a guard shack…Some years it was manned, others on the honor system…pre-COVID…COVIA announced they would close the Blue Mountain site and consolidate at the other location east end of Kosh Lake towards Cty Rd 46…not sure if it ever happened…as an FYI… the Nephaline mines above the lake are claimed to be the largest in the world….
Well done. I’ve always known about the mine, but rare is a photo with the railway incorporated in it. Let’s hope trains keep serving the mine for years to come.
