Before going to Ontario Southland Railway the F's were employed by the GEXR, 1400 and 1401 at the shop in Goderich, I don't think they ran in a pair like this very often on GEXR as there was usually another unit on one end or the other leaving the F's in the middle of the consist. They didn't last all that long on GEXR and both went out of service before OSR picked them up.

  1. I recall one got laid up with a bent rear drawbar, and the other had a bad compressor necessitating it always running with something else. They always seemed to stay on local runs, often with RLK 4001, I don’t think they ever ran on 431/432.

  2. 1400 had the compressor issues on OSR. So as long as one unit had it…. it could be in the consist

431/2 had the f unit at least once. And it led. It was a 7 or 8 unit train too.

And let’s ignore the times 431 ran west to Goderich from stratford. Which happened.

  3. April 18 2003

    431 was 1401-4001-4096-4019-6537-3821-4046.
