An incredible image taken in 1979 by John Freyseng inspired me to reach into my own archive and pull up this image from only a couple years ago, taken in the exact same spot. Above, CP 421 has a trio of engines up front as it heads west through Rosedale/Summerhill on a nice July afternoon.

Aside from the signals being changed from an interlocking to a pair of intermediates in the early 80s as well as the service track on the south side being removed, the location hasn't changed all that much in the 40+ years that separates the two images. Unfortunately, fast forwarding to the present day will open up a big change, as in April 2024 the signal bridge (along with every other searchlight on the North Toronto) was torn down. I'm glad to have documented it while I had time, and very grateful for those who were doing it in the decades before me.

  1. Nice work, Liam. Great candidate for the Time Machine.
